“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46.1
Dear Congregation, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with heavy heart but with love and care that we made the decision to postpone all worship services and meetings at St. Mark in light of the real danger of the coronavirus.
Earlier this afternoon, Bishop Bob Humphrey of the Virginia Synod issued a Pastoral Message in which he communicated the Synod’s advice for congregations within the Synod to cancel worship and any other in-person meetings though April 1.
Our decision as a Mission Council was by majority vote. It was not an easy decision and yet we all feel that our first responsibility is to protect you and care for the safety of the whole congregation and community.
Mindful of guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and medical research organizations, other organizations are also cancelling their activities. The list includes other churches in our community and UVA.
The expenses of the church continue even when we are closed. Please continue to support the church financially by giving through the mail or online giving. You can do that via our web page under support.
Sunday worship at St. Mark is a fundamental part of who we are. Our communion in Christ is what brings us together each week. We love and we care for each other and live out our faith in the world.
During these days when we have to be apart, we encourage you to: reach out and call on each other, call Pastor Viktoria any time. Look for communication and Lenten reflections in newsletters, read our Facebook page and connect with each other.
In Our Savior’s Service, Pastor Viktoria and St. Mark Mission Council
