Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Mission Council has voted to resume the option of in-person worship at St. Mark, effective Easter Sunday. At the same time, Pastor will continue to offer services on-line. If you wish to attend in person, I recommend signing up early, because we are starting with no more than 25 attendees.
In June 2020, Council voted to resume in-person worship, but rescinded that decision after the case numbers started going up in September. As was the case in both of those votes, Council gave prayerful consideration to the current decision. Council took into account the results of Congregational survey; data on case and vaccine trends from local authorities; and recommendations from Federal, state, and local health authorities. We also drew on the expertise and diverse points of view of our members, some of whom have backgrounds in health care, restaurants, the travel industry, and classroom education. Pastor contributed her knowledge of what is happening in other churches in the ELCA Virginia Synod and in Charlottesville.
If you wish to worship in person, please sign up after you familiarize yourself with the conditions in the attached FAQ. A sign up link will be sent out on the Saturday before the service. You may note that these are the same conditions that existed when we held in-person services over the summer, including signing up every week. These conditions apply to all attendees, even those who have been vaccinated.
