Jeff Werner was born and raised in Baltimore but has deep roots in Pennsylvania. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1985 and married Sandy in 1989. In 1996, he left Northern Virginia for Charlottesville, UVA, and St. Mark. After graduate school, he moved downtown into the 1884 “Winemaker’s House.”
The past 28 years have flown by—his children, Katie (31, Annapolis) and Will (27, Manhattan), have grown and moved away, he underwent a career change, and he even served on the Mission Council (approximately 15 years ago). However, he has yet to finish working on the house. As the city’s Historic Preservation & Design Planner, he has a deep appreciation for old buildings and history.
In 2021, Jeff stepped back from coaching high school lacrosse after more than 30 years, finding it less enjoyable after Will left for Clemson. However, he still plays with a group of fellow “old guys,” embracing the idea that while growing older is inevitable, growing up is optional.
