Mickey Speck

A lifelong Lutheran, Mickey Speck moved to the Charlottesville area after she and her husband Doug had both retired from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.  Mickey is a proud alumna of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, where she honed her music skills.  She and Doug were impressed with the music they experienced at St. Mark, so they joined in the fall of 2022.  Although she’s never served on a church council before, Mickey has previously served as interim music minister, children’s choir director, various visionary and leadership committees and planning teams.  Mickey currently sings with the Oratorio Society of Virginia and volunteers as an English tutor with Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle.  She loves having time for recorder classes and a hiking group with the Center at Belvedere, doing yoga, reading, and cross-stitching.  Doug and Mickey spent two months in Europe last year and are trying to schedule as much international travel as they can while they’re still mobile and healthy!  They have four adult daughters and are expecting their first granddaughter, due Easter Sunday!  They live on a beautiful hill in rural Barboursville, in a house they had built to satisfy all their retirement wishes.
